Lyndhurst Mansion Tour & Shopping Boutique

Posted by editor on 11/30/17

You don’t have to travel to Newport, Rhode Island to see beautiful and historic mansions.  Just 20 minutes from The Castle overlooking the Hudson River in Tarrytown, New York, is Lyndhurst.  This is one of America’s finest Gothic Revival mansions which was designed in 1838. Its noteworthy occupants included: former New York City mayor William Paulding, merchant George Merritt, and railroad tycoon Jay Gould. Lyndhurst also does a beautiful historic holiday tour during the month of December.

Lyndhurst was listed as one of the “Ten Best Historic Holiday Tours” by USA Today, because of their over-the-top display of holiday ornaments from when Jay Gould and his wife, a real French duchess, Anna Gould lived there. For the last month of the year, they bring out rarely seen children’s toys, holiday dishes, silver, jewels, and clothes that belonged to the Duchess.  This is a once-a-year opportunity to see many of the Goulds’ glittering possessions that are usually tucked away.

Another event at Lyndhurst which you won’t want to miss is their annual Holiday Open House and Shopping Boutique which is held Friday December 1st through December 3rd.  At this event, you’ll find over 55 vendors with unique and fine quality gift items.  Make sure to bring your camera and take pictures of the beautiful fall foliage and the Hudson River. It is truly breathtaking! If you’re feeling hungry after all that shopping we suggest dining at Red Hat on River which is just 2 miles away and on the Hudson Waterfront.
