The Original Rock Palace in Port Chester

Posted by editor on 05/13/16

The Capital Theater was built in 1926 and is in the heart of Port Chester.  The 1,800 seat building operates as a concert venue and hosts well-known musicians and occasionally popular comedians.

Throughout the 70’s, 80’s iconic bands from around the world performed at Capital Theater such as Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin and Traffic. The Grateful Dead played 13 shows here in just one year! In 1984 the theater was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The 90’s brought some great performers to the venue as well; Phish, Blues Traveler, David Bowie and the Rolling Stones.

The venue went through some renovations but was reopened in 2012 with Bob Dylan as its first act.  They also opened a bar which was named “Garcia’s” in honor of Grateful dead guitarist, Jerry Garcia. If you’re a music fan you’ll want to check out their upcoming schedule.  Phil Lesh, Ringo Starr, Ray LaMontagne, Ryan Adams and Jenny Lewis are just a few of the names that that will be performing in the upcoming months.

The Castle is just a 6 minute walk from the venue so you can enjoy some drinks at Garcia’s as well.  If you have friends coming from out of town, the Port Chester train station is also just down the street.  Become a part of history and visit the Original Rock Palace this summer!
